The Start of Something New...

The sole purpose of this trip is to unite our class of 75 students to a single group...

It was a happy and fulfilling trip...

Saturday, on the 27th of March 2010, we traveled for 5 straight hours to the harbor of a little beach in San Felipe, Zambales. It was one of the most memorable and happiest trips i had in my entire college life...

Before, our class had many groups. We have our batch Dota Boys, Batch Bakbalikwa (tama ba?!), Batch froggers, batch amazonas, batch a, batch b and batch VSA. We had our own worlds and our time to ourselves.

During the first days in the camp, the groups are fine. There are 5 cottages which stood to shelter or groups, with our professor included. We made camp and prepared our everyday meals and errands in order to survive this 3 day trip.

During the first 2 days, we noticed that we are all still the same. Same in a way that we still lack the courage to interact and widen our circle to other groups within our class, and also, disappointment could be seen in the eyes of our professor. So we decided to have a small group talk.

Suggestions filled the group and stories were said. One member of our group suggested to have a group meal later in the night. Everybody agreed and we immediately moved to the cottages of other groups to see if they will join our interesting plan. As expected, everybody agreed...

Monday, 5pm, everybody was prepared. Different meals were prepared, the woods for the great campfire were gathered, the tables were laid out, so was the banana leaves. Everything was in order, and after a few minutes of waiting, we started eating...

Everybody was happy, and everybody was excited, so was our professor, Sir Percy. We enjoyed that meal and also was really happy, because of the sudden aura change of our professor. We knew he was happy, and we knew that we imprinted a happy memory into his life...

After our glorious dinner, everybody set their places around the camp fire and drank... Everybody told their fair share of stories until almost everybody was drunk. It was fun, but still we knew it wasn't enough...

The next day, everybody is now interacting naturally with other groups, which is a great progress. We saw a little change was made when our whole class ate together, which was good. We had fun, games, laughter, until the moon begins to shine brightly into the night sky...

The night of March 29, as we sat around the campfire, everybody was silent. Our professor opened up everybody to EVERYBODY. He asked each of us 3 questions, (1) what have we learned from the trip (2) our negative comments (3) and what would we like to happen in the future. As everybody spoke, tears flowed through everyone as each of us opened up our hidden bitterness. Everybody wasn't prepared. Everyone was in shock.

Mixed emotions, untold explanations, hidden stories and lessons were told during the open forum Sir Percy had conducted. Tears were flowing and emotions were heavy as words came out of everybody...

After the open forum, everybody (almost) was crying. All the 'conflict', the 'misunderstandings' were explained, and everyone's burden were lifted off. We spent the entire night (or morning) drinking and laughing with our amazing professor. We knew he was happy, and the most important part of all, WE ARE HAPPY...

Last day... Everybody wasn't the same person we knew before. Every one of us was light and bright, and most of all, happy. Some of us would like to stay and some of us are ready to leave. Like i said before, the time of change is coming and it is inevitable. I just hope this will be the start of that change, the "start of something new"...
